Delores Marie Swan

 

Delores “Dee” Swan, the daughter of Frank and Marie (Brehmer) Dass, was born on January 2, 1936 in Fairview Twp, Osceola Co. near Harris, IA. She was baptized on February 24, 1936. Dee started grade school in Harris and when the family moved to a farm south of Ocheyedan, IA, she attended country school and then started 7th grade in Ocheyedan Public School. In 1949 the family moved to Fulda, MN where she attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School. She was confirmed on April 2, 1950. Dee attended Fulda High School, graduating in 1954. She worked that summer at the Fulda Dry Cleaners until her marriage to Harris Swan of Hadley, MN on October 10, 1954 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. They farmed for one year before moving back to Fulda. Dee then went back to work for the Dry Cleaners when their children were all in school. On January 2, 1974, she began working for the City of Fulda as Clerk-Treasurer until she retired on February 28, 2001. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where they served as youth counselors for the Walther League years ago. She helped Swanie read natural gas meters in Slayton for four years, helped deliver church bulletins to members in Maple Lawn Senior Care, Mapleview Estates, Maplewood Court and to shut in members. Dee was an election judge for many years. Dee enjoyed reading, doing word finds, going on the Bank VIP trips and collecting swan figurines. Dee loved spending time with her family, especially with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dee passed away on Friday, October 21, 2022 at the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda at the age of 86.

 

Survivors include her husband, Harris “Swanie” Swan of Fulda, MN; 3 children, Vicki (Bob) Sandhurst of Fulda, MN, Randy Swan of Lime Creek, MN and Michael (JoEtte) Swan of Marshall, MN; 8 grandchildren, Kelli (Brent) McConahey, Kari (Nick) Koos, Kimberly Sandhurst (Craig Rian Martin), Karly Medill, London Swan, Katy Swan, Jordan Swan and Rachel (Blake) Jouwstra; 7 great-grandchildren, Milanna, Anica, Jackson and Ethan Koos, Harley and Blake McConahey, Rhys Medill; 2 sisters, Lorraine (Loren) Van Oort of South Bend, IN and Jeanette (Alan) Greenfield of Fulda, MN; nieces, nephews and their families and aunt, Betty Schwarzenbach. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Harriet and George Meyer. 

 

Funeral Services

 

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fulda , MN at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 with Rev. Rev. Shawn Ethridge officiating.  The organist is Loretta Gehl. The pallbearers are her grandchildren. Interment at Prairie Hill Cemetery Fulda, MN.

 

Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 6 PM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fulda and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. The Totzke Funeral Home in Fulda is assisting the family with arrangements.
