Denis Marvin Schneider

Denis Schneider was born on January 2, 1927 on a farm in Rosehill Township, Cottonwood County, Minnesota to Frederick and Emma Wenzel Schneider.  He grew up on the family farm south of Avoca, MN and attended Avoca Elementary School and graduated from Slayton High School in 1944.  Denis entered the United States Navy at the age of 17 and served at Great Lakes Naval Training Center in Illinois until he received a medical discharge.  He then returned to the family farm and farmed with his parents until 1949. He then moved to Hancock, MN with his brother, Eugene and rented a farm from his uncle.  After retiring Denis returned to Avoca and lived with his brother, Daryl.    In August 2015 Denis became a resident of the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda, MN.  Denis passed away there on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at the age of 91.   He was an active member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Avoca.  He also was a member of the Avoca American Legion Post and the Fulda Lions Club.  Denis enjoyed fishing, playing pinochle and loved books and reading.

Survivors include his brother, Marvin Schneider of San Leandro, CA, three sisters, Beverly Ewy of Watertown, SD, Peggy McKlemurry of Ocala, FL and Donna Lindau of Wyoming, MN, one sister-in-law, Joanne Schneider of Cyrus, MN, and many nieces and nephews and their families.  He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Eugene Schneider, and Daryl Schneider, three brothers-in-law, Elwood Ewy, Lee McKlemurry, and Chuck Lindau, and sister-in-law, Irene Schneider.

Funeral Services

Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN on Monday, November 19, 2018 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Grant Fischer officiating. The organist is Nancy Lee Pierson.  The pallbearers are Doug Pierson, Todd McKlemurry, Michael Sieber, Jeff Schneider, Steve Schneider, and Scott Bichler.  Interment is at Prairie Hill Cemetery in Fulda, MN. Military honors accorded by the Avoca American Legion Post.

The family of Denis Schneider would like to give special thanks to Doug and Nancy Lee Pierson, and to the entire Pierson family for all the help they gave not only to Denis, but also to Daryl.  

Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday.
