Dorothy Ann Sturges

Dorothy Sturges was born on July 15, 1927, on the family farm near Iona, Minnesota to Joe and Mary Kellen Thraen.  Dorothy grew up on the farm and graduated from Fulda High School in 1945.  On January 14, 1945, she and Orville Sturges were married at Olivia, MN.  Following their marriage, they farmed near Lake Wilson, MN and raised their 3 children.  Dorothy worked at Juba’s Grocery Store in Pipestone, MN for 30 years.  Orville passed away on October 18, 1997.  Following Orville’s death Dorothy moved to Slayton, MN where she worked at the Country Host making pie as well as at the Royal Loon Supper Club as the hostess, she loved all the socializing that came with that job.  Dorothy was very outgoing, fun loving, and enjoyed a glass of wine with family at holiday’s and get together's.  Everyone that knew Dorothy will agree that she loved to dress up and always looked great.  She loved traveling and went on several trips with her siblings.  In 1977 she traveled to Germany to visit her son, Brad and his family.   In August 2020 Dorothy became a resident of the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda.  She passed away there on Friday, June 18, 2021, at the age of 93.

Survivors include her two children, Brad and Anne Sturges of Lake Wilson, MN, and Dianne Barrie of Chicago, IL,  nine grandchildren, Michelle Ackerman, Jay and Joan Lupkes, Scott and Shannon Lupkes, Ryan Lupkes, Angie and Larry Pearson, David and Jana Sturges, Tanja Sturges, Cody and Kelsey Sturges, and Kyle Sturges; 20 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren, four siblings, Sister Alice Thraen, Eva Anderson, Rex Thraen and his wife Susan and Jim Thraen and his wife, Marian, and one sister-in-law, Janice Thraen.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Orville, daughter, Bobby Jo Lupkes, son-in-law, Ed Barrie and grandson, Jason Barrie.

A graveside service will be at St. Columba Cemetery in Iona, MN on Thursday, June 24, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Thien Nguyen officiating.
