Edwin Charles Miller

Ed Miller was born on March 10, 1924 on a farm southwest of Currie, Minnesota to George and Irene Cauley Miller.  He grew up on the family farm and graduated Immaculate Heart of Mary High School in Currie in 1942.  On March 27, 1945 Ed enlisted in the United States Army.  Following his honorable discharge on November 22, 1946 Ed retuned to the Currie area and attended ag school in Tracy and later farmed.  On June 30, 1962 he and Alyce West were married at St. Ann’s Church in Slayton, MN.  Following their marriage they made their home in Slayton and Ed farmed with his brother-in-law.  In 1968 Ed went to work for the United States Post Office in Slayton.  In 1978 he quit farming and went to fulltime at the Slayton Post Office.  In 1991 he retired from being a mail carrier and took over as the custodian at the post office.  He retired in 1998.  Alyce passed away on April 15, 2005.  In 2010 Ed took part in the Honor Flight to Washington, DC.  Ed remained in his home until 2019 when he moved to Lindenwood Assisted Living in Slayton.  Ed passed away on November 2, 2020 at the Murray County Medical Center in Slayton at the age of 96.  He was a member of St. Ann’s Church, where in the past he served as custodian and on the parish council.  He also was a member of the Currie American Legion Post and the Knights of Columbus where he was a Fourth Degree Knight ”Sir Knight”.  Ed enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and carpentry.

Survivors include his 11 nieces and nephews, Kathleen and Jim Peters, Donald and Faye Webster, Bonnie and Gerald Reed, Charles Webster, Betty Redford, Jeane and Sherm Fryer, Rhonda Miller, Wayne Miller, Laverne Thalacker, Michelle Miller and Curtie Miller and special friends, Paul and Deb Louwagie and their family.  He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Alyce, two sisters and their spouses, Dorothy and Leon Webster, Veronica and John Kenny and one brother, Vincent Miller and his wife, Arlene.

A private family service will be on Friday, November 6, 2020 at St. Ann’s Cemetery in Slayton with Fr. Thien Nguyen officiating.  The honorary pallbearers are his fellow Knights.  Military honors accorded by the Slayton American Legion Post and the Slayton VFW Post.
