Elaine Violet Hein

Elaine Hein was born on December 27, 1937, in New Ulm, Minnesota to Edgar and Violet Tews Moll.  She grew up in DeGraff, MN and graduated from Benson High School in 1955.  On July 27, 1955, she and Clifford Smith were married at the Benson Pilgrim Congregational Church.  The first two years of married life was spent traveling throughout the United States for Clifford’s Job.  In 1958 they made their home in Hutchinson, MN until 1963, when they moved to Worthington, MN.  She and Clifford divorced in 1977.  On February 28, 1981, she and Arliss Hein were married at the First Presbyterian Church in Worthington.  Following their marriage, they made their home on Arliss’s farm near Brewster, MN.  In 1994 they retired and moved to Fulda, MN.  On Monday, April 29, 2024, Elaine moved to Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington and passed away there on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at the age of 86.  She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fulda where she was active in the LWML, with the Prayer Chain and the Altar Guild.  She also was a member of the Maple Lawn Pink Ladies.  Elaine enjoyed spending time with her family, being a grandma and great-grandma, gardening, and church activities. 

Survivors include her husband, Arliss Hein of Fulda, MN, six children and their spouses, Susan and Craig Haskins of Ventura, CA, Bradley and Shari Smith of  Talbott, TN, Karie and Kris Karr of Fort Dodge, IA, Colleen and Al Bestge of Fulda, MN, Randy Hein and Unhui Gunderman of Brewster, MN, and Pam and Calvin Berger of Worthington, MN , 16 grandchildren, Dieter (Allison) Smith, Aaron (Sara) Smith, Jennifer Bays, Dylan Karr, Sydney Karr, Jacki (Joe) Larson, Adam Hein (Melissa Scott), Tim (Chelsea) Hein, Alex (Kathryn) Hein, Clarke Hein, Travis (Katelyn) Bestge, Heather Bestge, Maria (Chris) Kott, Andrew (Kayla) Bestge, Nicole (Christopher) Fritz and Megan (Tyler) Eekhoff, 27 great-grandchildren with three expected soon, one great-great-grandchild expected soon, two siblings and their spouses, William “Bill” and Helen Moll of The Villages, FL, and Jeanne and Bob Teichert of Mountain Home, AR and one sister-in-law Shirlet Moll of Willmar, MN.  She is preceded in death by her parents, infant sister, two great-grandchildren, Kale Grandgeorge-Hein and Madden Hein and one brother, Donald Moll.

Funeral Services

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fulda, MN on Monday, May 6, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Shawn Ethridge officiating.  The organist is Dr. Robin Gehl.  The pallbearers are her grandchildren.  Interment is at Prairie Hill Cemetery in Fulda, MN. 

Visitation will be on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fulda from 4-6 p.m. and one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday.  Totzke Funeral Home of Fulda is entrusted with arrangements. To view online obituary and send condolences visit totzkefuneralhome.comElaine
