Elmer William Brake

Elmer Brake was born January 17, 1942 in Adrian, Minnesota to Joseph and Clara Einck Brake.  He graduated from St. Adrian High School in Adrian in 1960.  In 1969 Elmer and Judy Thorson were united marriage at St. Kilian Church in St. Kilian, MN.  Following their marriage they farmed near St. Kilian until 2007 when they moved to a home on Lake Shetek near Slayton, MN.  Following his retirement Elmer enjoyed going out and supervising his nephews.  Elmer loved his farm and always wanted to know how much it rained out on the farm.  Due to failing health Elmer moved to Our House Hospice Home in Slayton on August 22, 2020 and passed away there on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at the age of 78.  He was a member of St. Kilian Church where he served on various church boards was member of the St. Kilian Society, and served on the St. Kilian Cemetery Board for many years. He also served on the Fenton Township Board and the Wilmont Elevator Board.  Elmer enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing, playing cards, and his Monday poker group.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Judy Brake of Slayton, MN, daughter, Sarah Brake of Worthington, MN, three brothers and their spouses, Don and Doris Brake of Worthington, MN, Ike and Betty Brake of Luverne, MN, and Ray and Audrey Brake of Wilmont, MN, several nieces and nephews and their families, and his special friend/dog, Eddie.  He is preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services

St. Kilian Church in St. Kilian, MN on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. with Msgr. Rick Colletti and Deacon Vern Behrends officiating.  The organist is Michelle Wieneke with special music by Cara Soper.  The pallbearers are Scott Brake, Dan Brake, Joseph Brake, Curt Brake, Brandon Thorson and Kevin Gruys.  The honorary pallbearers are Denny Johnson, Gill Breuer, Bob Ferguson, Ron Johanning, Gary Runkle and Buddy Biegler.  Interment is at St. Kilian Cemetery in St. Kilian, MN.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Our House Hospice in Slayton or to donors choice.

Visitation will be on Friday, August 28, 2020 at St. Kilian Church in St. Kilian from 4-6 p.m. and also one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday. Totzke Funeral Home of Slayton is entrusted with arrangements.  Both the church services and visitation will be following the social distancing and mask requirements.
