Evelyn “Evie” Barnes

Evelyn Mae Barnes, the daughter of Frank and Rachel (Eggdorf) Franzen, was born on October 25, 1928, in Primgar, IA. She grew up Primgar and later moved to a farm near Lime Creek, MN attended school in Fulda. Evelyn was united in marriage to Robert Barnes on February 14, 1946, in Worthington, MN. After their marriage they lived on a farm south of Fulda until 1966 when they moved into Fulda. Evie worked as a secretary for Fulda Lumber and Barnes Milling for many years. She remained at home after Bob passed away in May of 2014. Evie entered the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in November of 2019 and passed away there on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at the age of 94. She enjoyed golfing, bingo and crocheting which she won champion ribbons at the fair. Evie also loved bowling and participated in 25 Women’s International Bowling Championships across the country.

Survivors include her daughter, Gayleen Pals of Fulda, MN; 2 grandchildren, Kacee Pals and Justin (JaDee) Pals; 2 great-grandchildren, Garrett Pals and Jameson Pals; 2 sisters, Betty Getzel and Marlyse (Jerry) Frey and 2 brothers, Larry Franzen and Richard (Marge) Franzen. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant daughter, Brenda Barnes, son-in-law, Lloyd Pals, 2 brothers, Loyd Franzen and Wayne Franzen and sister, Bonnie Hedquist.

Funeral Services

First Presbyterian Church Fulda, MN at 10:30 AM on Monday, October 30, 2023, with Rev. Rollin Haynes officiating.  The organist is Norma Meyeraan. The soloist is Lloyd Winter. Interment at Prairie Hill Cemetery Fulda, MN.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. The Totzke Funeral Home in Fulda is assisting the family with arrangements.
