In Loving Memory of
Genevieve Sieve
1925-2020
Genevieve Hulda Sieve, the daughter of Erick and Mary (Mayme Kuehl) Carlson, was born on June 25, 1925, in Omaha, Nebraska. In 1926, her parents returned to rural Dundee, Minnesota to farm the land her Swedish pioneer grandparents (Carl Victor and Hulda Rosina Carlson) had settled in the late 1800s. Growing up in this rural setting, Gen had fond memories of riding in a sleigh to country school and performing in school holiday plays. She often reminisced about playing baseball and going to movies twice weekly with family and friends. One of her favorite films as a young girl was “Gone with the Wind”. She graduated from the Fulda High School in 1942. After the end of WWII, she met her future husband, Walter Clemens Sieve, at a big band era dance at Valhalla. They were married on April 16, 1947, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dundee. They honeymooned at Niagara Falls and then resided in Fulda, Minnesota. They co-owned a Kaiser-Frazier car dealership, garage and lunch counter in Fulda with two of Clem’s brothers. In 1951, they formed a farming partnership as Sieve Brothers with Victor and Delores Sieve and moved to a farm near Wilmont, Minnesota. In 1960, Sieve Brothers bought a farm nearby and Gen and Clem resided there to continue to raise their family. As an active member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, Gen was a member of The Catholic Daughters and The Altar Society. She also Volunteered at the OLGC Catholic School. In addition, she belonged to a birthday club and a card club. Her interests included entertaining family and friends, cooking and baking, traveling and reading. Gen passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2020, at Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda at the age of 95.
