Genevieve Stewart
Genevieve Mildred Stewart, the daughter of Edward and Mildred (Johnson) Gries, was born on March 11, 1929 in Galva, IA. She was baptized at the Methodist Church in Galva. Gen graduated from Larrabee High School in 1946. Gen was united in marriage to Donald Stewart on January 18, 1948 in Sutherland, IA. After their marriage they lived and farmed near Larrabee. In 1958 they moved to Dike, IA for one year then moved to Fulda to farm. Gen decided to open a ceramic shop in her basement and took classes herself. She taught many others that included students at the grade school for 30 years. Gen took up quilting and was an exceptional seamstress. She was also a perfectionist at cross stitch. Gen made quilts for all of her kids and grandkids. She was an avid competitive card player and at any point she could pull out some kind of sewing from her bag or a deck of cards. She was particularly ruthless at spite and malice. Gen passed away on Monday, February 17, 2025 at the Maple Lawn Senior Care Center Fulda, MN at the age of 95. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Fulda and the Elk’s Club in Worthington, MN. Gen received Volunteer of the Year at the Fulda Elementary School for her 30 years of service.
Survivors include her children, Michael (Vicki) Stewart of Park Rapids, MN, Diann Paplow of Fulda, MN, Douglas (Cathy) Stewart of Fulda, MN and Kristi (Timothy) Holinka of Fraser, CO; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; 3 brothers and 2 sisters. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 sister and 3 brothers.
Funeral Services
First Presbyterian Church Fulda, MN at 10:30 AM on Friday, February 21, 2025 with Rev. Rollin Haynes officiating. The organist is Norma Meyeraan. The soloist is Lloyd Winter. The pallbearers are her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Interment at Prairie Hill Cemetery Fulda, MN.
Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 6 PM at the First Presbyterian Church in Fulda. The Totzke Funeral Home in Fulda is assisting the family with arrangements.
