Gerald Chris Voss
Gerald Voss was born on December 21, 1932 in Slayton, Minnesota to Chris and Lena Helmke Voss. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Slayton High School in 1950. In 1952 he and Audrey Carlson were married at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lake Wilson, MN. Following their marriage they farm north of Hadley. In 1956 they moved to Madelia, MN where he owned and operated a service station and also worked for Kraft Cheese in New Ulm, MN. In 1962 they returned to family farm north of Hadley where Gerald farmed. While farming Gerald also worked at the Chandler Air Base and Champion Homes in Slayton. In 1974 they moved to Hadley and Gerald drove truck for Bayliner Marine in Pipestone until his retirement in 1998. After his retirement Gerald did odd jobs for Hadley Steel. Gerald entered Our Hospice Home on Friday, February 24, 2012 where he passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at the age of 79. He was a member of Hadley Lutheran Church in Hadley. He also was a member of the Hadley Lions Club. Gerald enjoyed spending time with family, camping, fishing, playing cards, watching Westerns, and driving around on his golf cart.
Survivors include his six children and their spouses, Pamela Judkins of Biwabik, MN, Kathy and John Gilbertson of Garvin, MN, David Voss of Hadley, MN, Richard and Gina Voss of Mahtomedi, MN, Connie and James Sorenson of Hadley, MN, and Debrah and Scott Helmke of Lake Wilson, MN, 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, one sister, Leona Peterson and her husband, Bueford of Benson, MN, one sister-in-law, Ceona Voss of St. Cloud, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Audrey, one great-grandson, Greydon Paggett, and two brothers, Duane and Raymond Voss.
Funeral Services
Hadley Lutheran Church in Hadley, MN on Friday, March 2, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Kerry Boese officiating. The organist is Dianne Johnson. The pallbearers are grandsons, Gerald Judkins, Johnny Gilbertson, Peter Voss, Anthony Sorenson, Tyler Helmke and Brock Voss. The honorary pallbearers are Willie Metz, Sherril Helmke, Harvey Bjerk, Ed Thraen and Rick and Darlene Like. Interment is at St. John’s Cemetery rural Lake Wilson, MN.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.
