Geraldine “Jerrie” Magnussen

Geraldine Stephana Magnussen, the daughter of Julius and Stephana (Heger) Schaffer, was born on September 27, 1928 in Dundee, MN. She grew up in Dundee and Heron Lake and attended school. Jerrie was united in marriage to Kenneth Magnussen on August 27, 1946 in Sibley, IA. After their marriage they lived in Worthington and Kinbrae before moving to Dundee in 1955 and calling it home. She remained at home after Kenny passed away on June 12, 1974. Jerrie worked as the Dundee City Clerk for many years while also selling Avon and operating her ceramics business, M&D Ceramics. But the job she treasured the most was homemaker for her family. Jerrie passed away on Friday, October 8, 2021 at Westbrook Good Samaritan Society in Westbrook, MN at the age of 93. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Dundee. Jerrie also belonged to the Dundee American Legion Auxiliary for 62 years and served as President, Secretary and Membership Chair throughout those years.  She enjoyed cooking, baking and canning for family and friends. Every Thursday you could count on a couple loaves of homemade bread for anyone that showed up. One of her greatest joys was checking her calendar every week to see which family member had a birthday and what special treat she could make for them. Jerrie was a special woman and will be missed by everyone that knew her and loved her. 

Survivors include her 4 children, Sonya (Chuck) Tennessen, Kim (Nona) Magnussen, Pam (Jerry) Steen and Kevin (Deb) Magnussen; 10 grandchildren, Rhonda (Jim) Larson, Nikki (Chad) Grasma, Chad (Dulcey) Magnussen, Jason (Katie) Steen, Jonathon (Leslie) Steen, Stacie (Kyle) Hicks, Kris (Cassandra) Magnussen, Kenny, Kody and Karter Magnussen; 15 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren and 2 sisters-in-law, Marilyn Schaffer and Darlene Gaster. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Kraig, 4 sisters, Josephine Sutherland, Evelyn Schoenberger, Mabel Anderson and Deloris Pigman and 5 brothers, Otto, Vincent, Cornelius, Bennett and Eugene Schaffer. 

Funeral Services

A private family service will be held at the First Lutheran Church Dundee, MN on Monday, October 18, 2021 with Rev. Lance Isaacson officiating.  The organist is Norma Dittman. Interment at Worthington Memorial Gardens Worthington, MN.

The Totzke Funeral Home of Fulda is assisting the family with arrangements.
