Harold Earl Harberts

Harold Harberts was born on November 23, 1934, on the family farm near Rushmore, Minnesota, to Hajo and Augusta Harms Harberts.  He grew up on the family farm and attended Rushmore Country School.  On May 1, 1957, he was drafted into the United States Army and attended Boot Camp at Fort Hood in Killeen, TX.  On July 13, 1957, he married Virginia Hamman in Killeen, TX.  He was stationed in Erlangen, Germany until his honorable discharge on March 30, 1959.  Upon his return he and Virginia farmed north of Rushmore until 1964 when they moved to a farm near Reading, MN where he continued to farm and drive truck.  They retired in 2014 and moved to Worthington, MN in 2016.  Due to failing health Harold moved to The Cottage in Luverne, MN on June 30, 2021.  He passed away there on Saturday, July 3, 2021, at the age of 86.  He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Worthington and served as usher.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandkids, fishing, hunting, playing cards and collecting tractors.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Harberts of Worthington, MN, Doug and Deb Harberts of Belle Vista, AR, Michael Harberts of Rushmore, MN, Cherlyn and Dean Schaffer of Savage, MN, Brian and JoAnne Harberts of Worthington, MN, and Darla and Darin Fritz of Reading, MN, nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four siblings and their spouses, Daryl and Joyce Harberts, of Rushmore, MN, Virgil Harberts of Bonney Lake, WA, Dennis and Darlene Harberts of Stevesville, MT, and Eunice and Harlan Heidebrink of Sioux Falls, SD; two sisters-in-law, Lois Harberts of Rushmore, MN, and Jenny Harberts of Missoula, MT.  He is preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Roger and Myron Harberts.

Memorial Services

St. Mary’s Church in Worthington, MN on Friday, July 9, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Jim Callahan and Deacon Vern Behrends officiating.  The organist is Linda Lang. The song leaders are Gary Snow and Glennis Marsh.  A private family interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Worthington, MN.  Military honors accorded by the Worthington American Legion Post and the Worthington VFW Post.  

Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.
