In Loving Memory Of
Helen Aukland
Helen Marie (Kubly) Aukland was born October 28, 1923, to Jacob and Emma (Kraft) Kubly in Wright County, Iowa. She graduated from Renwick High School in Iowa in 1941, then attended business college in Mason City, Iowa. During WWII, she worked in Chicago and California. Back in Iowa, she met the love of her life, John Aukland, a deep-sea diver on leave from the Navy. They married on February 14, 1950, and farmed in Iowa for several years before making their home outside Fulda. They had three daughters, Marcia (Craig) Rocheleau, Jean (John) Maertens, and Joan. A farm accident took Joan’s life at a young age. Besides farming, life was filled with friends, dancing, and card playing (at which Helen was uncannily lucky!). Eventually her life became happily busier with grandchildren (Jamie Maertens, Jacob & Maria Maertens, and Bethany & Dan (Rocheleau) Albing, and great-grandchildren Addie and Owen Albing and Juliet Maertens. Helen & John enjoyed a great deal of travel and fun in the sun during their long retirement. John passed away in 2006, and Helen continued to enjoy traveling with her daughters and spending time with her family and friends. Helen passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda at the age of 100.
