Iris Adelle Idler

Iris Idler was born on March 25, 1934, in Rhame, North Dakota to Everett and Aleda Hjelm Ludlum.  She grew up in Rhame and graduated from Rhame High School in 1951.  On November 15, 1952, she and Alvin Idler were married at the First Lutheran Church in Rhame.  Following their marriage, they owned and operated an auto mechanic shop until it was lost to a fire.  In 1959 they moved to Okabena, MN where Iris was the school secretary.  Over the year she and Alvin made their home in MN, ND, and MT.  Iris worked in several school districts as the school secretary. She retired in 1985.  Following their retirement they manage an apartment complex in Seattle, WA for 4 years.  They then spent the next 5 years traveling the western United States in a 5th wheel camper.  They settled in Williston, ND and sold Forestburg Watermelons in the fall for several years.  In 2010 they moved to Slayton to be near their daughter, Rita.  Alvin passed away on October 20, 2012.  In 2016 Iris became a resident of the Slayton Rehabilitation and Health Care Center until it closed, and she moved to the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda.  Iris passed away there on Sunday, June 13, 2021, at the age of 87.  She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton and was active in Circle.  She also was a member of PEO.  Iris enjoyed crafts of all kinds, reading and crossword puzzles.

Survivors include her four children and their spouses, Randy and Patty Idler of Reno, NV, Rhonda and Jay Loken of Seattle, WA, Rita and Glenn Anderson of Slayton, MN, and Ryan and Gloria Idler of Greeley, CO; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Jean Dirk of Spearfish, SD, and one-sister-in-law, Marilyn Ludlum of Williston, ND.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Alvin, one grandson, Rory Idler, and three brothers, and one sister.

A graveside services will be on Friday, June 18, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Tuttle Cemetery in Rhame, ND. The pallbearers are her grandchildren.
