James Raymond Ahlers

James Ahlers, the son of Ben and Clara (Thorman) Ahlers, was born on June 24, 1935 in Adrian, MN. He grew up on the farm near Rushmore until 1939 when they moved to a farm near Worthington. He attended country school and graduated from the Worthington High School in 1953. Jim entered the U.S. Navy in 1955 serving on the USS Shangrila until his discharge in 1957. Jim was united in marriage to Mary Schnurr on May 23, 1959 at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Fulda. After their marriage they lived and farmed southwest of Fulda. Jim retired from farming in 2010. He moved to Maple Wood Assisted Living in Fulda in 2009. Jim passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda at the age of 86. He was a member of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church. Jim also was a lifelong member of the Elks Club. He was the Vice President of his high school class and belonged to 4-H and FFA where he was awarded the Star Farmer. Jim was a lifelong farmer and enjoyed Vikings games, playing cards with friends and traveling to various sites in the U.S. with his wife.

Survivors include his children, Alan (Maria) Ahlers of Fulda, MN, Mark Ahlers of Fulda, MN, Craig Ahlers of Fulda, MN and Lynn (Ed) Hoffman of North Mankato, MN; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; siblings, Lois (Jim) Walsh of Sioux City, IA, Darlene Lloyd of Helena, MT, Mike (Elaine) Ahlers of Worthington, MN and Tom (Tammy) Ahlers of Fulda, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers, Steve and Chuck Ahlers and brother-in-law, Larry Lloyd. 

Funeral Services

St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church Fulda, MN at 2:00 PM on Friday, September 17, 2021 with Msgr. R. Paul Heiting officiating.  The organist is Dana Hogan. The song leader is Sheila Crowley. The pallbearers are his grandchildren, Alexa Ahlers, Eric Ahlers, Ryan Timmerman, Blake Diekmann, Taylor Daniels, Evan Timmerman and Shaun Timmerman. Interment at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery Fulda, MN.

Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the church on Friday. The Totzke Funeral Home in Fulda is assisting the family with arrangements.
