In Loving Memory Of
Jay Sauer
Jay John Sauer, son of Charles and Mary (Benjamin) Sauer, was born on February 10, 1963 in Slayton, Minnesota. He grew up on the Sauer family farm west of Fulda, and graduated from Fulda High School in 1981. Throughout his high school years, Jay loved playing football and was proud to be a Fulda Raider.
After graduation, Jay worked for numerous local businesses including Worthington Rendering Co., Art Schaap Moving & Storage, Armour, and Jacobson Transport before joining the U.S. Army Reserve, where he met his wife, Maureen. The two were married on June 24, 1989 in Mankato, Minnesota and later bought an acreage west of Fulda where they raised their daughter, Nicole. After moving to the farm, Jay spent over 28 years working for Murray County Highway Department, where he plowed snow every winter and met several lifelong friends.
Jay will be remembered most for his sense of humor, his love of family, and his caring heart. He enjoyed hunting, ice fishing, and watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings play each season. He especially loved to spend time with his best friend, Jon Beeck. Jay was also a member of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Fulda.
He is survived by his wife, Maureen; daughter Nicole (Alex) Gonzalez; brothers Chuck (Mary) Sauer, John (Donna) Sauer, Mike (Brenda) Sauer, and Steve Sauer; sisters Linda (Gerald) Fuerstenberg, Joy (Jim) Feyereisen, and Donna (Ed) Zimmerman; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary Sauer, his sister Evelyn Fuerstenberg, and his adored black lab, Maggie.
A Celebration of Life in honor of Jay will be held on Sunday, July 16, 2023 from 1-4PM at the Fulda American Legion. Please feel free to bring a memory of Jay to share. Family and friends are also encouraged to wear John Deere or green/yellow attire.
