Jean Marie Eich
Jean Eich was born on December 8, 1947, in Slayton, Minnesota to Robert “Bob” and Laurine Anderson Somers. She grew up on the family farm near Avoca, MN and graduated from Slayton High School in 1965. Jean then attended Nursing School at Glenwood Hills Hospital in Golden Valley, MN graduating in 1966. On October 14, 1967, she and Gary Eich were married at St. Rosa Lima Church in Avoca. Following their marriage, they made their home in Slayton where Jean worked at the Murray County Hospital as a nurse for 40 years and later, she went to work in the Purchasing Department for another 6 years. Jean passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, with her family by her side at the age of 74. She was a member of St. Ann’s Church in Slayton and was active in the CCW and took care of the flowers and decorating of the church for many years. She also was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America serving as financial secretary. Jean spent many years as part of the Community Band. Jean enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, playing cards, coffee with friends, and feeding the squirrels and birds.
Survivors include her husband, Gary Eich of Slayton, MN, three children and their spouses, Kari and Mark McKernon of Lakeville, MN, Kurt and Kim Eich of Otsego, MN, and Stacey and Mark Ommen of Luverne, MN, nine grandchildren, Joe, John and Jack McKernon, Anna, Dean and Jerred Eich, and Logan, Dylan and Tyson Ommen, five siblings and their spouses, Fran Berreau of Lake Wilson, MN, Pat and Gary Grev of Dayton, MN, Tom and Pam Somers of Avoca, MN, John and Gina Somers of Inver Grove Heights, MN, and Mary and Mike Illg of Glencoe, MN, and several nieces and nephews and their families. She is preceded in death by her parents, grandson, Jacob McKernon and one brother-in-law, Fred Berreau.
Funeral Services
St. Ann’s Church in Slayton, MN on Monday, April 11, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Thien Nguyen officiating. The organist is Judy Andrews. The song leader is Sheila Crowley. The pallbearers are her grandchildren. Interment is at St. Ann’s Cemetery in Slayton, MN.
Visitation will be on Sunday, April 10, 2022, at St. Ann’s Church in Slayton from 4-6 p.m. with a CDA Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday.
