John Francis Elskamp
John Elskamp, the son of Frederick and Agatha (Keitges) Elskamp, was born on March 5, 1928 in Fulda, MN. He grew up in Fulda and attended school, graduating from the Fulda High School in 1947. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served until his honorable discharge in June of 1952. John then lived in Des Plaines, IL. John was united in marriage to Katherine Bauer on October 15, 1966 in Des Plaines, IL. After their marriage they lived in Des Plaines and in 1972 they moved to Rolling Meadows, IL. In 1988 John retired and they moved back to Fulda to the family home. John passed away on Friday, June 11, 2021 at his home, where he was also born in, at the age of 93. He was a member of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Fulda. He was an avid nature lover. John enjoyed feeding the birds, gardening and being outdoors. He loved writing letters to family and had an inquisitive mind right to the end. He took pride in his hometown of Fulda.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine Elskamp of Fulda; 6 children, Robin Jimenez, Linda (Randy) Thomas, Steven (Amy) Elskamp, Kimberly (Scot) Sherman, April (Brent) Hulley and Robert (Jamie) Elskamp; 20 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 2 sisters, Coletta Hayward and Ann Kennedy; brother, Fr. Fred Elskamp and sister-in-law, Lois Elskamp. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Robert Elskamp, Phillip Elskamp, Lozetta Denno, Colleen Woznak, Agnes Malters, Sr. Yvonne Elskamp and David Elskamp.
Funeral Services
St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church Fulda, MN at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 7, 2021. Interment at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery Fulda, MN. Memorials are preferred to the Cancer Society or St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital.
