In Loving Memory Of
John Jans
John Riemer Jans was born October 18, 1932, to William and Edna (Schuknecht) Jans in Dundee, MN. John passed away peacefully on May 23, 2026, surrounded by his family at the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda at the age of 93.
John attended country school for eight years and Fulda High School for one year. He got his GED while serving in the Korean War. He was drafted on May 19, 1953, and served two years in the army. He went to basic training at Fort Ord, California and went overseas to Korea for a year and returned to Fort Lewis in Washington. John returned to the farm and was united in marriage to Joyce Barrett on June 24, 1956, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN. They lived their life hand-in-hand and were blessed with almost 70 years of marriage.
John and Joyce met while both were part of the Rural Youth Group while at a square dance at the county fair. They enjoyed square dancing with the Worthington Turkey Trotter and Murray Mixers groups. They lived in four houses on the same farm, lived on four farms and had four children. He was the fourth child born and fourth son to be drafted into the Army. There was something about the number ‘four’ in his life. John was a life-long farmer and served on many boards including Church, Farm Bureau, ADA, and the Township.
John always said he was so blessed and was proud of his family. He is survived by the love of his life, wife, Joyce of Fulda, MN; children Cindi (Brian) Riewe of Amboy, MN, Tim (Nancy) Jans of Delano, MN, Paul (Mary) Jans of Fulda, MN, and Kelly (Karen) Jans of Princeton, MN. Grandchildren: Cory (Karyn), Aaron (Anika), Jeremiah (Amber), Joshua (Brienne), Kyle (Jenna), Jarred (Erin), Lynsey (Marcus), Espen (Morgan), Hunter (Kristen), and Anders. 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and two sisters-in-law, and his beloved grandson, Adam “Red” Jans.
