Julie Marlene Heitkamp

Julie Heitkamp was born on April 20, 1980 in Brookings, South Dakota to Robert “Bob” and Marianne “Mary” Dorn Heitkamp.  She grew up in Brookings and graduated from Brookings High School in 1998.  She then attended SDSU in Brookings, later moving to Sioux Falls, SD.  Julie had a love for fashion and people which led to a career in retail.  Julie worked at Gap for over 15 years and later at Simply Perfect both in Sioux Falls.  In 2019 Julie returned to Brookings due to health issues associated with liver disease.  On March 3, 2021 due to failing health Julie entered the Avera McKenna Hospital in Sioux Falls.  Julie peacefully joined her mom in heaven on Friday, March 12, 2021 with her family by her side at the age of 40.  She was a member of St. Thomas More Church in Brookings.  Julie loved fashion, strawberries, George’s Pizza, music, concerts, Diet Coke, and watching the Golden Girls, above all else, she loved being auntie JuJu to her niece, Sophie and nephews, Layne and Mazlo.  Julie will be remembered for her love of life, compassion for others, and her unique style.

Survivors include her father, Bob Heitkamp of Brookings, two sisters, and their spouses, Jenny and Robb Loomis of Brookings, SD and Megan and Chris Brandriet of Sioux Falls, SD, one niece, Sophie Loomis, two nephews, Layne and Mazlo Brandriet, and a host of other family and friends.  She is preceded her mother, Mary Heitkamp, maternal grandparents, Ed and Margaret Dorn and paternal grandparents, Ed and Marion Heitkamp.

In an effort to keep everyone safe a private family service will be held at St. Thomas More Church in Brooking, SD on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 with Fr. Terence Anderson officiating.  The honorary pallbearers are Sophie Loomis, Layne Brandriet and Mazlo Brandriet.  Interment is at St. Thomas More Cemetery in Brookings, SD.  Masks will be required, and social distancing and occupancy limits are to be followed.
