Julie JoAnn Severson

Julie Severson was born on July 23, 1967, in Slayton, Minnesota to James “Jim” and Marilou Clauson Christensen.  She grew up in Slayton and graduated from Slayton High School in 1985.  Following high school Julie attended Stewarts School of hair in Sioux Falls, SD graduating in 1986.  Julie worked as a server at several area restaurants over the years.  She was last employed at the Grain Exchange in Slayton.  Due to health reasons, Julie retired in the fall of 2025.  Julie passed away at her home with her family by her side on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at the age of 58.  She was a member of St. Ann’s Church in Slayton.  Julie enjoyed spending time with her family, children, and grandchildren, watching her grandchildren’s events, watching the Minnesota Vikings, woodworking crafts, painting rocks, and her cats, Rio and Razz.

Survivors include her three daughters, Casandra Jurrens, of Slayton, MN, Caitlyn McGregor, and her husband, Kyle of Baltic, SD, and Chelsey Bruno and her husband, Marvel of Nicollet, MN, seven grandchildren, Kollin, Garrett, Lincoln and Emmalynn McGregor, and Ellie , James, and Layla Bruno, her mother, Marilou Christensen of Slayton, MN, two siblings and their spouses, Scott and Tracy Christensen of Cheyenne, WY, and Marti and Jeff Engelkes of Slayton, MN, several nieces, nephews and their families and beloved cats, Rio and Razz.  She is preceded in death by her father, Jim Christensen and her dog, Bear Bear.   

Funeral Services

St. Ann’s Church in Slayton, MN on Monday, January 19, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Antony Arokiyam officiating.  The organist is Judy Andrews.  The song leader is Sue Bau.  The pallbearers are Kyle McGregor, Marvel Bruno, Cale Engelkes, Rylan Engelkes, Carson Engelkes, James Christensen, and Adrian Montoya.  Interment is at St. Ann’s Cemetery in Slayton, MN. 

Visitation will be on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at the Totzke Funeral home in Slayton from 4-6 p.m. also one prior to the services at the church on Monday.  To send condolences visit totzkefuneralhome.com
