Karen Fae Johnson
Karen Johnson was born on December 22, 1949, in Pipestone, Minnesota to Milton and Florence Graphenteen Lopau. She grew on the family farm near Pipestone and graduated from Pipestone High School in 1967. On September 21, 1968, she and Richard Johnson were married at the Peace United Methodist Church in Pipestone. Following their marriage, they made their home on a farm near Avoca, MN later moving to a farm near Currie and in 1989 moving to Slayton. Karen worked at the Slayton Drug Store, Midwest Supply, Supervalu and with Richard at Johnson Garbage and Rubbish. She later went to work at the Murray County DAC where she worked for over 17 years as a Direct Support Professional. Due to failing health Karen moved to Our House Hospice Home in Slayton on September 10, 2021. She passed away there on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at the age of 71. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School. Karen enjoyed spending time with family and friends, watching her grandchildren’s activities, camping, crossword puzzles, and reading. She was one that never forget a birthday or an anniversary it was always remembered with a card. Karen was always the first to arrive and the last to leave a gathering.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Johnson of Slayton, MN, four children and their partners, Amy Loosbrock and Nathan Miller of Lake Wilson, MN, Chad Johnson of Slayton, MN, Bobbi Johnson and Monte Swenson of Slayton, MN, and Jeremy Johnson and Ashley Carlson of Slayton, MN, 11 grandchildren, six siblings, Barb and Tom Feuerhelm of Madison, MN, Rita and Dale Von Arb of Cleveland, TX, Randy and Donna Lopau of Canby, MN, Steve and Linda Lopau of Preston, MN, Mark and Melissa Lopau of Dover, MN, and Jolene Lopau of St. Leo, MN, five sisters-in-law, Sharon Lopau of Lake Benton, MN, Lynn Lopau of Sioux Falls, SD, Gay Lopau of Brooten, MN, Julie Lopau of Dawson, MN, and Sandy Lopau of Pipestone, MN and several nieces and nephews and their families. She is preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter, Michele and six brothers, David, Merlyn, Edward, Delwin, Arlyn and Ron Lopau.
Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN on Thursday, October 14, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Dave Hollis and Rev. Rollin Haynes officiating. The organist is Theresa Nysetvold with special music by Heidi Winter. The pallbearers are Monte Swenson, Nathan Miller, Darin Loosbrock, Cole Bassett, Macoy Swenson, Chayce Johnson, Wyatt Loosbrock, Aidan Swenson, and Trey Johnson. Interment is at Willow Lake Lutheran Cemetery in rural Tracy, MN.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton from 4-6 p.m. and also one hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday.
