Larry Jorgensen Obituary

In Loving Memory Of

Larry Lee Jorgensen

Larry Jorgensen, son of Alvin and Dorothy Torkelson Jorgensen was born September 26, 1945, in Slayton, Minnesota.  Larry became a Child of God through Holy Baptism on October 7, 1945 and confirmed that faith on March 22, 1959 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Fulda, Minnesota.

Larry attended St. Paul's Lutheran School and graduated in May of 1963 from Fulda High School.

Larry enlisted in the United States Marine Corps February 2, 1964 in Florida and was honorably discharged from active duty at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina on February 2, 1968, after serving aboard the USS Independence CVA-62 aircraft carrier, and completing his Vietnam tour of duty.

He married Joanne Hakeneis, the blonde neighbor girl who lived just down the road on April 9, 1966 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church.  God blessed this marriage with a caring daughter and son.

Larry enjoyed farming the century old Hakeneis family farm, here raising both Tami and Kelly.  For many years Larry drove long haul semi for various employers and clocked well over one million miles on his semi.  Weeks over the road, time seemed so long but what a joy for the whole family when we would hear him arrive home.

His grandchildren always added the sunshine to his days and visits from each of our offspring gave Larry many treasured and special moments to remember.

Larry was an outdoor individual.  He took such pride in telling adventure stories of his experiences out West hunting.  He thoroughly loved travelling God's beautifully created scenery and especially enjoyed this adventure with Joanne on his Harley or following her on her Harley.  He admired John Wayne, travelled great distances to attend a Gun  Show and spent time viewing model train displays.  Larry fully enjoyed and shared his knowledge of World War II events and dates.

Larry was a member of ABATE of Minnesota, Lutherans in Leather, the VFW Post #9017, American Legion Post #318 and the NRA.  He was a life-long member of St. Paul's of Fulda, holding office of Trustee, Elder, Header Usher and Sunday School Superintendent.

The evening of April 27, 2018, changed absolutely everything about life, family, time, work, commitment, concern, care and love.  After falling down the stairway to our family room, Larry suffered a spinal cord injury.  Hospital stay, surgery, rehab therapy and 24-hour care gave Larry a very positive outlook for recovery.

On Tuesday morning, December 1, 2020, the Savior Who does all things well, called his beloved and forgiven son, Larry, to the place He had prepared for Him.

Those who had the honor and privilege of sharing a lifetime of memories with Larry include his wife, Joanne, dedicated and totally devoted daughter Tami and Dallas Rasmussen, Welcome MN; son Kelly of Gilby, North Dakota; Grandchildren Adam Rasmussen and special friend Brittany of Marshall, Minnesota; Adrian and Maura Rasmussen, Winnebago, Minnesota; Mariah Rasmussen and special friend Jaedon of Welcome, Minnesota, and sisters-in-law Mary (Randy) Lennon, Kasson, Minnesota, and Anita Rixe, Duluth, Minnesota; thoughtful Aunt Marge Ackerman and Uncle Don and Norma Jorgensen, along with a list of cousins and friends.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Plan, enjoy and live each day to the absolute fullest as one never knows when your exciting and busy life can change and you begin an entirely different journey.
