Laura Wancenried was born on August 1, 1950 in Slayton, Minnesota to Ernest and Myrtle Jens Wancenried. She grew up on the family farm near Avoca and graduated from Slayton High School in 1968. Laura then attended Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, graduating in 1972. Laura was a kind and compassionate soul who spent her life in service to others. From her work as a server at the Currie Legion, her time as a server/bartender/manager at the Dovray Manor Restaurant through the years she spent as a travel agent for Bursch Travel, Laura exhibited a desire to help people in a wide variety of settings. After her retirement from Bursch, Laura worked as a clerk/manager at Hancock Fabric and a professional letterer at Aria. She loved her Hancock customers and became a creative resource for many of her customer/friends. Laura had many interests and hobbies. She enjoyed traveling and learning about other places. She was an avid reader. She was a sewing whizz doing everything from a wedding dress for her niece to curtains for a co-worker, numerous Christmas tree skirts and many, many hems for her "short" friends! Laura was a creative person who attempted and mastered many different crafts. She loved all kinds of animals and took great pleasure from caring for her many cats over the years. But most of all, Laura loved her family and friends and that love was unconditional and abundant. She was always there when someone needed her. Laura is leaving behind a large family of sisters, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and even one great great niece who will all miss her. Laura passed away unexpectedly at the St. Cloud Hospital on Friday, April 16, 2021 at the age of 70. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Avoca until Faith Lutheran closed. Laura was a member of the Currie American Legion Auxiliary.

A private graveside service will be held at Faith Lutheran Cemetery in Avoca, MN on Friday, April 23, 2021 with Rev. Stephanie Swanson officiating. Memorials may be directed to the Tri County Humane Society at 735 8th St. NE St. Cloud, MN 56304.
