Lavoy James Lund
Lavoy Lund was born June 9, 1937, to Alfie and Mary (Koehn) Lund in Fulda MN. He was a 1955 graduate of Fulda High School. Before and after graduation he went to work for Skellys Service in Fulda. On February 7, 1959, he married Karen Dorpinghaus at St. Gabriel’s Church in Fulda. In 1964 they moved to Lakefield MN and there they raised their 4 children Gail, Audrey, Mike and Jim. Lavoy owned the Vet’s Oil Service Station until his retirement in 1991. In 2021 they returned to Fulda to reside at Mapleview Estates. Lavoy passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda at the age of 85.
Lavoy was active in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Knights of Columbus and served as treasurer for many decades. He assisted with delivering Meals on Wheels. He belonged to the local bowling league and enjoyed playing cards with their card club. He loved helping others and worked with his son, Mike, at Mike’s Plumbing for 16 years. Lavoy found his true calling after retirement for his love of baking and cooking for others. His hand whipped homemade Angel food cakes were famous across the state and in big demand. Lavoy and Karen also made wedding cakes as a side hobby. His specialty potato salad, homemade buns and caramel rolls, cookies, and pies were enjoyed by many family and friends. Gardening and canning were also a passion of his.
Lavoy looked forward to spending time with his grandchildren and teaching them how to play cribbage, to fish and to bake. His heritage of homemade angel food cake was passed down to grandson Josh and buns and peanut cake to grandson Andy.
Lavoy is survived by his wife, Karen Lund; daughters, Gail (Ron) Kruger, Rochester, and Audrey (Frank) Lynch, Lakeville; sons, Mike (Sandy) Lund, Slayton and Jim Lund, Lakefield; grandchildren, Matt Lynch, Tulsa, OK, Andy Lynch, Arvada CO, Josh (Paige) Kruger, Lakeville, Chelsey (Zach) Hegge, Lakeville, Alex Kruger, Eden Prairie, Nicole (Eric) Robinson, Sioux Falls and Brittany Lund, Sioux Falls; great grandchildren Jayce and Jaden Robinson, Nora Kruger and Ella Hegge; sisters-in-law, Ilene (David) Stumm, Arlene Wilkison and Mary Lund; brother-in-law, Delano (Renee) Dorpinghaus and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Manley Lund and Mervin (Vernis) Lund.
Funeral Services
St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church Fulda, MN at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 17, 2022 with Msgr. R. Paul Heiting officiating. The organist is Dana Hogan. The song leaders are Tiffany Sanow and Brooke Schutte. The pallbearers are his grandsons. Interment at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery Lakefield, MN.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. The Totzke Funeral Home in Fulda is assisting the family with arrangements.
