LeRoy Elton Comnick
LeRoy Comnick passed away at his home in Prescott Valley, Arizona on Saturday, August 8, 2020 surrounded by his family. LeRoy, or Roy to his friends, celebrated his 82nd birthday with his family and with video calls with his grandchildren. He was born on August 1, 1938 in Dovray Township, MN to Elton and Eldora (Peterson) Comnick and grew up on the family farm. Following graduation from Westbrook High School in 1956, Leroy enlisted in the United States Air Force. On November 4, 1956, he married Janet J. Smith, of Slayton, MN. Together, they had four children and traveled the world. During his 26 years in the Air Force, he had assignments in seven states and four countries. He later worked at for U.S. Postal Service in Grand Forks, ND for 20 years. In 2000, LeRoy and Janet moved to Prescott Valley where he pursued his interest as a coin dealer. He also enjoyed playing cards with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Janet Comnick of Prescott Valley, AZ; son, Michael Comnick of Orlando, FL; three daughters, Debora Clark of Woodbridge, VA; Cynthia Elliott of Prescott Valley, AZ; and Kimberly Bittrich of Tucson, AZ; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson; two sisters, Lylas (Herman) Eigenberg of Windom, MN, and LaDonna Berger of Worthington, MN, and brother, Larry Comnick of Worthington, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Lanny Comnick.
A graveside service will be at the Slayton Cemetery in Slayton, MN on Thursday, August 20, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Tim Stoa officiating. Military honors accorded by the Slayton American Legion Post and the Slayton VFW.
