Leon “Swede” Edward Chepa
Leon “Swede” Chepa, the son of Ted and Della (Jones) Chepa, was born on September 26,1931 in Worthington, MN. He grew up in the Kinbrae area and attended country school. In 1953 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea. He drove trucks hauling ammunition until his Honorable Discharge in 1954. Leon worked for 13 months in the Azores, Portugal as a paver worker. He then returned to his parent’s farm and worked as a hired man. He later worked in construction until his retirement in 2000. Leon passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at the Mission Nursing Home in Plymouth, MN at the age of 89. He belonged to the Dundee Rod and Gun Club for many years and was a member of the Dundee American Legion. Leon enjoyed hunting, fishing especially in South Dakota, snowmobiling, going to the casino and horse track racing in Grand Island. Leon also loved Elk hunting in Colorado and Montana, gardening, cooking and canning.
Survivors include his 2 sisters, Winifred “Nan” Johnson of Dundee and Mary (Tom) Schwartz of Madison, SD; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers, Donald, Douglas, Ben, Jerry, Marty and Hollis Chepa and 2 sisters, Gen Czepa and Donna Anderson.
Graveside services were held at Prairie Hill Cemetery Fulda, MN. Military honors provided by the Dundee American Legion.
The Totzke Funeral Home in Fulda assisted the family with arrangements.
