Lloyd Fuerstenberg

Lloyd Leo Fuerstenberg, the son of Bernard and Theresa (Diekmann) Fuerstenberg, was born on November 27, 1929 in St. Kilian, MN. He grew up near St. Kilian and attended St. Kilian School. He was drafted into the Marine Corps in 1951 and served until his discharge in 1953. Lloyd was united in marriage to Clara Bertrand on August 25, 1953 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Wilmont, MN. After their marriage they lived in St. Kilian until 1956 when they moved to a farm outside of Wilmont. He was a self-made engineer without a degree in making something out of nothing. In 2010 they built their retirement home in Wilmont. They enjoyed wintering in southern Texas for 28 years. Lloyd passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at the Sanford Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 94. He was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Wilmont. Lloyd loved his faith. Lloyd loved farming, farm tools, antiques and antique tractors, especially Oliver equipment. He also enjoyed gardening on wheels, making game boards, ice fishing and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Clara Fuerstenberg of Wilmont, MN; 11 children, James (Shelley) Fuerstenberg of Wilmont, MN, Christine (Steve) Lee of Ogden, IA, Marvin (Margie) Fuerstenberg of Luverne, MN, Barbara (Roger) Mergen of Albany, MN, Joan (Jim) Joens of Wilmont, MN, Sharon (Gary) Giugler of Windom, MN, Robert (Teresa) Fuerstenberg of Wilmont, MN, Glenn (Kristi) Fuerstenberg of Sioux Falls, SD, Lois (Mike) Harberts of Reading, MN, Gail (Bruce) Kingery of Reading, MN and Jerry (Heather) Fuerstenberg of Austin, MN; 32 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild and 2 brothers, LeRoy (Janet) Fuerstenberg of Wilmont, MN and Dave (Pat) Fuerstenberg of Ham Lake, MN and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Remigius “Bob” and Ray Fuerstenberg and sister, Anna (Jim) Armstrong.

Funeral Services

Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church Wilmont, MN at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 with Msgr. Rick Colletti celebrating.  The organist is Linda Huisman. The cantors are Ken and Sandy Roskamp. The pallbearers are Mark Lee, Isaac Joens, Gregg Fuerstenberg, Michael Garrison, Justin Sieve, Clinton Fuerstenberg, Tyler Fuerstenberg, Brian Harberts, Nathan Harberts, Tony Fuerstenberg and Keith Fuerstenberg. Interment at Calvary Cemetery Wilmont, MN.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 PM with a rosary and prayer service at 4 PM at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Wilmont, MN and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. The Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton is assisting the family with arrangements.
