Lois Elskamp

Lois Mary Elskamp, the daughter of Frank and Clara (Kellen) Voss, was born on August 5, 1938 in Des Moines River Twp, Murray Co, MN. She grew up on the family farm and attended Dist. #96 School through the 7th grade and then attended Slayton High School, graduating in 1957. After high school she moved to Fulda and worked at the Café. Lois was united in marriage to Philip Elskamp on November 22, 1958 at St. Rose Lima Catholic Church in Avoca. After their marriage she lived and worked with Phil in the shoe and canvas repair shop in Fulda. After her children were grown, she worked for the Fulda CO-OP service station for 15 years while doing shoe repair at night. In 1990 she retired from the CO-OP and did shoe and canvas repair full time. Lois remained at home after Phil died in June of 2001. She semi-retired in 2003. Lois repaired shoes for over 58 years and celebrated 100 years of Elskamp Shoe Repair in 2019. Lois passed away on Friday, September 20, 2024 at the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda at the age of 86. She was a member of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, VFW Aux. Post 9017, Rural Letter Carriers Aux, Butterfield Threshing Bee where she worked in the harness shop, Fulda Lions Club, Cub Scout Den Mother. Lois served as president, secretary and treasurer of the Tri-State Shoe Service Association. She enjoyed being with her family, her girlfriends, her pets, and her backyard flowers. She also enjoyed the many bus trips she took.

Survivors include her three children, Theresa (Tim) Roberts, Paul (Amy) Elskamp and Don (Mauri) Elskamp; 7 grandchildren, Paige Roberts, Malory (Kyle) Fritz, Lauren (Andrew) Johnson, Kaitlyn, Thomas, Joseph and Samuel Elskamp; 5 sisters and 8 brothers, Leona Gieselman, Gene Voss, Clarice Gieselman, Pat Hattendorf, Sharon Johnson, Leo (Judy) Voss, Steven (Carol) Voss, Stanley Voss, Daniel (Caren) Voss, Mark (Mary) Voss, Anna (Dave) Malay, Robert (Sharyn) Voss and Edward (Roxanne) Voss. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, great-grandson, Tate Fritz, 5 brothers, Adam, Tom, Dick, Patrick and Paul Voss and 2 sisters, Carol and Virginia Voss.

Funeral Services

St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church Fulda, MN at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 28, 2024 with Fr. Peter Schuster celebrating.  The organist is Dana Hogan. The song leader is Sheila Crowley. The honorary pallbearers are her brothers. Interment at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery Fulda, MN.

Praying of the Rosary begins at 9:30 AM with visitation from 9:30 to 11:00 AM at the church on Saturday. The Totzke Funeral Home in Fulda is assisting the family with arrangements.
