Luella “Lou” Agnes Huerkamp

Lou Huerkamp was born on April 27, 1933, on a farm in Nobles County, Minnesota to Robert and Alma Brake Voss.  She grew up on the family farm north of Wilmont, MN and graduated from Worthington High School in 1950.  On September 18, 1950, she and Joseph “Jody” Huerkamp were married at Our Lady of Good Counsel in Wilmont.  Following their marriage they farmed south of Iona, MN for a short time before moving to a farm near Garvin, MN for a year.  They then moved to a farm north of Iona for 17 years later moving to the current farm south of Iona.  Lou was an Avon Lady for 40 years serving as Assistant Manager of her district.  Jody passed away on November 24, 2010.  Lou remained on the farm until her death on Monday, September 2, 2024, at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 91.  Lou was a member of St. Columba Church in Iona, MN.  Lou enjoyed spending time with her family, bowling, casino bus trips, jewelry, and her love of flowers.

Survivors include her six children and their spouses, Randy Huerkamp of Minneapolis, MN, Dale and Eileen of Royalton, MN, Deb and Steve Suedbeck of Redwood Falls, MN, Rodney “Butch” and Lisa Huerkamp of Avoca, MN, Cynthia and Bill Conway of Rushmore, MN, and Diane Huerkamp of Little Falls, MN, 15 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, one brother, Les Voss of Stacy, MN, one sister-in-law, Dorothy Voss of Blaine, MN and many nieces and nephews and their families.  She is preceded in death by her parents, two infant grandchildren, Brent, and Shannon Huerkamp, and six siblings and their spouses, Delphine and Bob Burns, Merrill and Carmen Voss, Myron Voss, Floyd and Helen Voss, Loren and Joan Voss and Bob and Karen Voss.

Funeral Services

St. Columba Church in Iona, MN on Friday, September 6, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Antony Arokiyam officiating.  The organist is Sharon Lais.  The song leader is Sheila Crowley.  The pallbearers are her grandchildren, Jason Huerkamp, Nathan Huerkamp, Kyera Reams, Tanya Sobiech, Chad Huerkamp, Kurt Huerkamp, Eric Suedbeck, Dan Suedbeck, Tim Suedbeck, Brandi Ronning, Justin Huerkamp, Jessica Mack, Cody Conway, Heather Lokker-Peterschick and Brooke Lokker.  Interment is at St. Columba Cemetery in Iona, MN.
