In Loving Memory Of
Marlene Jean Leinen
Marlene Leinen, the daughter of Victor and Verna (Callies) Kommes, was born on February 4, 1937 in Howard, SD. She grew up in Howard and at a young age she moved with her family to Fulda, MN. Marlene attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School and graduated from the Fulda High School. Marlene was united in marriage to Douglas Leinen on June 26, 1955 in Fulda, MN. After their marriage they lived at various farms in the Fulda area until 1965 when they moved to a farm southwest of Fulda. In 2011 they moved to a house in Fulda. Doug passed away in July of 2017. Marlene remained at home until she moved to Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington, MN where she passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at the at the age of 85. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she had been a Sunday School teacher and a member of the choir. She enjoyed puzzles, playing cards and traveling, with her favorites being Alaska and Germany. She loved to spend time with all of her grandchildren.
Survivors include her 3 children, Peggy (David) Palomaki of David City, NE, Diane (John) Schettler of Wilmont, MN and Bruce (Judy) Leinen of Worthington, MN; 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren (with twins due in February); 1 great-great-grandchild; brother, Larry (Jackie) Kommes of Warrington, VA; sister-in-law, Marla Ford of Watertown, SD and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Darrell Leinen and sister, Judy Buschena.
Funeral Services
St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Fulda, MN at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 with Rev. Shawn Ethridge officiating. The organist is Loretta Gehl. The pallbearers are her grandchildren, Randy Schettler, Andrew Palomaki, Michael Palomaki, Philip Palomaki, Adam Leinen, Aaron Leinen, Lori Klein, Ashley Nankivil, Nicole Leinen and Brittany Dufour. Interment at Prairie Hill Cemetery Fulda, MN.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 6 PM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fulda and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. The Totzke Funeral Home in Fulda is assisting the family with arrangements.
