In Loving Memory Of
Marlene Magnus
Marlene Joyce (Childers) Magnus was born on October 23, 1933, in Slayton, Minnesota. She attended school in Slayton, where she met Henry “Hinie” Magnus. Marlene and Hinie were married on February 3, 1951, and enjoyed over 73 years of marriage before her passing on August 5, 2024, surrounded by her family. Marlene and Henry were blessed with four children. Throughout the years, Marlene held various jobs, ranging from being a farmer's wife and milking cows to managing the Fulda grocery store, where she retired from Maynard's. Her grandchildren cherished this role, as her candy drawer was always stocked with the newest treats on the shelves. Marlene was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Fulda. She and Hinie enjoyed square dancing in their younger years but spent their recent free time enjoying friends and family. Marlene often relaxed in her sunroom during warmer months and walked for miles in the Minnesota snow throughout winter. She was known for never missing an occasion, always sending a card in the mail, a phone call, or a note on social media to friends and family, sometimes a day in advance, to wish them a happy day.
Marlene is survived by her husband Hinie, her children and their spouses, Steve (Mary) Magnus, Dan (Dorinda) Magnus, Sheila (Jon) Beeck, and Pam (Tim) Young; her grandchildren, Cari Nelson, Candi (Mat) Wood, Jennifer (Tim) Duitsman, Sara (Dave) Draper, Amanda Beeck, Angela (Paul) Pelzel, Anita (Jimmy) McNab, Arick Young, and Tyler (Jordan) Young, and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by special friends Clarence and Joyce Jurrens and Barb Sandhurst.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, Ethel and John Childers, her sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Howard Payton, her brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Smokey Childers, her mother-in-law, Mollie Magnus, as well as several of Hinie’s siblings and spouses.
