Marlin Kenneth Johnson
Marlin Johnson was born on September 25, 1940, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota the second oldest of six siblings. In 1950 Marlin was adopted by Andrew and Bernice Lien Johnson. He grew up on a farm south of Garvin, MN, and attended country school and later Tracy High School. Marlin was a hard worker and kept very busy raising dairy cows and doing all the milking by hand until the new dairy barn was built. He made his own formula cattle feed for the dairy side and had some of the best milk in the country, but unfortunately never patented it. He also raised Guernsey Cattle and later got in to breeding Chester White pure-bred hogs. In 1978 he and Marie Horkey Laue were married at Lake Sarah Lutheran Church in Garvin. Following their marriage, they made their home on the farm south of Garvin. In 1978 they moved to Marshall, MN. While in Marshall Marlin held various Jobs, a boiler operator, welder, and truck driver but farming was his passion he would help area farmers in the spring and fall of the year. Marie passed away on November 25, 2015. In January of 2020 Marlin moved to Clarkfield Care Center in Clarkfield, MN. He passed away there on December 1, 2024, at the age of 84. He was a member of Lake Sarah Lutheran Church in Garvin where he served as usher and sang in the choir. Marlin enjoyed all things farming and loved to talk farming with anyone, he also enjoyed volunteering. Marlin encouraged and taught the kids to be self-sufficient in-home maintenance projects as well as car maintenance. Marlin will be remembered for his pleasant demeanor, his ethic and love of farming.
Survivors include one daughter and spouses, Darla and Douglas Jr. Schmidt of Montevideo, MN, five stepchildren and their spouses, Alan and Teresa Laue, Colorado Springs, CO, Sheryl and Robert Christensen of Isanti, MN, Marcia and Bernard Thooft of Clay Center, KS, Mark and Tonya Laue of St. Robert, MO, Jerilyn and Charles Tichenor of Bellevue, NE, 21grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and three siblings, Joanne, Richard, and Elaine. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marie, and three sibling, Henry, David and Karen.
Funeral Services
Lake Sarah Lutheran Church in Garvin, MN on Monday, December 9, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Drake Snell officiating. The organist is Bev Swift. Interment is at Modum Cemetery in rural Slayton, MN.
