Mary Catherine Diekmann
Mary Diekmann was born on September 15, 1941, in Fulda, Minnesota to Charles and Regina Zins Sauer. She grew up in Fulda and graduated from Fulda High School in 1959. On December 26, 1960, she and Loren Diekmann were married at St. Gabriel’s Church in Fulda. Following their marriage, they made their home on a farm northwest of Wilmont, MN. First and foremost, Mary was a devoted wife and mother, as well as working at Sterling Drug in Worthington, Huisken’s Meats in Chandler, MN, and later cooked at the Worthington Regional Hospital. In 2000 they moved to Worthington, MN. In 2009 Mary retired and they moved to Wells, MN to be near family. In 2021 they moved to Oak Terrace Senior Living in North Mankato, MN. Mary passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at the Mayo Health System in Mankato, MN at the age of 80. She was a lifelong member of St. Kilian Church where she was the organist, and pianist for over 35 years. She also was a member of the CCW and served as past President. Following their move to Wells they joined St. Casimar Church in Wells where Mary sang in the choir and was a member of the Bible study group. Mary also served on the Wells Library Board. She was a member of the Red Hat Ladies and the Pink Hat Society. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family, attended her grandchildren’s activities, music of all kinds, sewing, baking, making greeting cards, reading, playing cards.
Survivors include her husband, Loren Diekmann of North Mankato, MN, seven children and their spouses, Lisa and Jock Wenzel of Albert Lea, MN, Larry and Gina Diekmann of Slayton, MN, Lance Diekmann of Wells, MN, Lori and Brian Denton of West Des Moines, IA, Lynette and Michael Perry of Rochester, MN, Lyle and Anne Diekmann of Litchfield, MN, and Lenny and Julie Diekmann of Wells, MN, 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter, Jonna and three brothers and their spouses.
Memorial Services
St. Kilian Church in St. Kilian, MN on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. with Msgr. Rick Colletti officiating. The organist is Cate Koehne with special music by the St. Kilian Choir. The honorary pallbearers are Bruce Sauer, Barry Sauer, and Tom Sauer. Interment is at St. Kilian Cemetery in St. Kilian, MN.
Visitation will be on Monday, August 15, 2022, at the St. Kilian Church from 4-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will also be on Tuesday at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Totzke Funeral Home of Slayton, MN is entrusted with arrangements.
