Peter “Pete” Henry Schreier Jr.

Pete Schreier was born on January 18, 1927 on the family farm in Lime Lake Township, Murray County, Minnesota to Peter and Alice Beach Schreier Sr.  He grew up on the family farm and attended country school.  On August 13, 1949 he and Dorothy Halverson were married at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Currie, MN.  Following their marriage, they farmed near Avoca, MN and raised their five children. Dorothy passed away on January 17, 1988.  Pete later married Evelyn Dunteman Janssen in Mesa, AZ.  Following their marriage, they continued living on the Schreier family farm until 2012 when they retired and moved to Slayton, MN.  Following retirement Pete enjoyed helping out on the farm.  He and Evelyn enjoyed spending their winters in Mesa.  Due to failing health Pete moved to the Pipestone County Hospice in January 2021 and passed away there on Sunday, February 28, 2021 at the age of 94.  He was lifelong member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Currie although he attended St. Ann’s Church in Slayton since moving to Slayton.  Pete served on the Lime Lake Township Board for over 20 years and did ditch mowing for Lime Lake Township until he was 90 years old.  Pete enjoyed farming, working on old tractors, dancing and coffee with the guys.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Schreier of Slayton, MN, his five children and their spouses, Michael and Deb Schreier of Avoca, MN, Raynatta and Dan Streff of Lake Norden, SD, Charlene and Conrad Wegener of Owatonna, MN, Julie and Dan Kruger of Lake Benton, MN, and Pam and Dan Kohrs of Rochester, MN, five step-children and their spouses, Mike and Cindy Janssen of Jacksonville, FL, Marlene Janssen of Onalaska, WI, Mark and Darla Janssen of Rushmore, MN, Michelle and Tim Bakker of Treacy, SC, and Matthew and Torri Janssen of Stevensville, MD, ten grandchildren, ten step-grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, eight step-great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, one brother and his wife, Ronald and Judy Schreier of Currie, MN, and one sister-in-law, Doris Schreier of Slayton, MN.  He is preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Dorothy, one sister, Roselene Gilles, and two brothers, Cleo Schreier and his wife, Betty and Darrel Schreier.

In an effort to keep everyone safe a private family service will be held at St. Ann’s Church in Slayton Saturday, March 6, 2021 with Fr. Thien Nguyen officiating.  The organist is Judy Andrews.  The pallbearers are David Schreier, Jason Schreier, Mitchell Kruger, Gina Smith, Tina Hein, and Jocelyn Schreier.  Interment is at Calvary Cemetery in Currie, MN.  Per MN Executive Order, masks will be required, and social distancing and occupancy limits are to be followed.
