Randall “Randy” W Christiansen

Randy Christiansen was born on April 21, 1950 in Slayton, Minnesota to Regner and Dolores “Foote” Grieme Christiansen.  Randy grew up in Slayton and graduated from Slayton High School in 1968.  He later attended Pacific University in Forest Grove, OR graduating in 1974.  Randy’s military career had him calling all parts of the United States his home.  He eventually settled in Fairbanks, AK and worked as an Optometrist.  Randy loved showing his friends and family from all over the county what Alaska had to offer.   Randy was very proud of the fact that he grew up in Slayton.  Although he did not always reside in Slayton his roots were planted deep with in the Slayton Community.  On June 4, 2011 he and Diane Hinrichsen were married in Fairbanks.  He retired after 30 years in the United States Military having served in the Army, Navy and Air Force Alaska Air National Guard’s.  They remained in Fairbanks until 2012 when they moved to Slayton, MN.  They spent their time between, Minnesota, Arizona and Alaska.  Randy passed away unexpectedly at the Murray County Medical Center in Slayton on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the age of 68.  He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton.   He was a past member of the Corvette Club, Kiwanis and the Coin Club all in Fairbanks.  He also was a member of the Slayton American Legion Post, Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever.  Randy enjoyed fishing, hunting, coin collecting, woodworking, cooking, playing cards, golfing and his tree farm.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Christiansen of Slayton, MN, three children, Megan White of Florida, Matthew Christiansen of Michigan and Kellie Rhodes of Alaska, two grandchildren, Shealynn Stokley and Aaliyah Rhodes, three siblings, and their spouses, Debbie and Jerry Lyons of Colorado, Janet and Bob Johnson of Texas, and Leigh Christiansen Mexico and several nieces and nephews and their families.  He is preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services

Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Grant Fischer officiating.  The organist is Brenda Whitehead with special music by Tim Bengtson.  The pallbearers are Jerry “JB” Braun, Larry Hafner, Tom Keller, Jerry Moline, Jay Christiansen and Jeff Grieme.  Interment is at Slayton Memorial Gardens in Slayton, MN.  Military honors accorded by the Slayton American Legion Post and the Slayton VFW Post.

Visitation will be on Friday, November 9, 2018 at Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton from 4-7 p.m. and also one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Slayton American Legion Post or Pheasants Forever.
