Raymond Richard Goedtke
Raymond Richard Goedtke, the son of Carl and Margaret (Behr) Goedtke, was born on October 25, 1930 on a farm in Seward Township, Nobles County, Minnesota. He grew up on the farm, attended country school, and was confirmed on April 2, 1944 at Immanuel Lutheran (Pfingsten) Church, rural Fulda. He graduated from Fulda High School in 1948. He briefly attended South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota. Raymond was united in marriage to Twyla Popken on October 16, 1953 at Immanuel Lutheran (Pfingsten) Church. After their marriage they made their home on a farm southwest of Fulda. Raymond farmed and raised livestock. Together he and Twyla hosted numerous foreign exchange students as part of University of Minnesota MAST (Minnesota Agriculture Student Trainee) Program. After their retirement from farming in 1992 they resided in Fulda. They shared 60 years of marriage until Twyla’s death on December 24, 2013. Raymond became a resident of Maple Lawn Nursing Home, Fulda in February 2019 and then Crossroads Care Center, Worthington in July 2020. He passed away there on May 2, 2021 at the age of 90. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Fulda where he served as elder and sang in the choir. He also delivered church bulletins for shut in members and to Maple Lawn Senior Campus. Raymond proudly served as a member of the Middle Des Moines Watershed Board from 1970 to 1994. He enjoyed farming, music, traveling, spending time with family, and driving the country roads.
Survivors include his two children, Paula (Bob) Lutz of Fulda, Peter (Luci) Goedtke, of Fulda, 6 grandchildren Richard (Sarah) Hahn, Scarlett Hahn, Colin (Kristyn) Hahn, Christian Goedtke, Nathan Goedtke, and Sierra Goedtke, 2 great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law, Wynn Sohler of Prior Lake. He is preceded in death by Twyla, his parents, one brother, Ervin Goedtke, an infant sister, Irene Goedtke; sisters-in-law, Ardella Johnson and Stena Goedtke.
A private family service will be held. The pallbearers are his grandchildren. Interment is at Immanuel Lutheran (Pfingsten) Cemetery rural Fulda, MN.
