Richard James Boehnke

Richard Boehnke, the son of Fred and Irene (Dierks) Boehnke, was born on February 10, 1949 in Worthington, MN. He grew up on the family farm and attended school in Fulda and graduated from the Fulda High School in 1967. Rich then entered the National Guard and served for 5 years. He remained on the family farm where he farmed with his family. Rich was united in marriage to Sherri Clark on February 9, 1974 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn, MN. After their marriage they lived on the Boehnke family farm southwest of Fulda. In the early 1990’s he worked for Memory Gardens in Worthington and later for Bob Springman Tiling until 2012. Rich then began working for the Minnesota DNR until 2015 when he retired due to health reasons. He loved spending time at their lake house in Fulda, where he could watch what was happening around the lake. Rich passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 11, 2022 at the Murray County Medical Center in Slayton, MN at the age of 73. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fulda where he served as a Trustee and taught Sunday School for many years. Rich had also belonged to the Fulda Lion’s Club and was a founding member of the Fulda Jaycee’s. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, taking care of his many animals on the farm and driving around in the truck with one of his dogs. Over the last couple years, he loved riding his scooter around town and stopping to visit with whoever was around. He also liked helping Sherri teach her ESL class. Rich’s greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandkids, and special friends, Logan Gass and Donavan Bruns.

Survivors include his wife, Sherri Boehnke; 3 children, Corey (Angela) Boehnke, Tara (Steve) Hawks and Travis (Steph) Boehnke and 10 grandchildren, Brandon, Levi, Kaylee, Conner, Emmalyn, Maya, Avery, Zoey, Avayah and Milani. He is preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters, Joan and Mary Boehnke. 

Funeral Services

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Fulda, MN at 10:30 AM on Thursday, February 17, 2022 with Rev. Shawn Ethridge officiating.  The organist is Lorretta Gehl. The pallbearers are Sharon Johansen, Charles Breit, David Dierks, Jim Dierks, Dale Dierks and Ted Dierks. Interment at Prairie Hill Cemetery Fulda, MN.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 6 PM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fulda and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. The Totzke Funeral Home in Fulda is assisting the family with arrangements.
