Richard Dale Johnson

On Sunday, September 1, 2019 at the age of 86, Richard Dale Johnson, son, brother, friend, and resident of Prairie View in Slayton, MN passed away peacefully at home surrounded by those that love him.  He will forever be remembered by his family at Prairie View.

Richard Johnson was born August 2nd, 1933 to Everett C and Wilma Hunicutt Johnson in Frost, MN. Richard resided with his parents until Feb.7th 1943, when he was admitted to the Cambridge State Hospital. He resided at Cambridge until being transferred to Brainerd State Hospital on March 14th, 1962 where he stayed until coming to his permanent home at PrairieView in Slayton, MN on September 16th 1985.

Richard attended work at the Murray County DAC in Slayton from September 1985 until unexpected decline in health in August of 2019. At work Richard participated in leisure activities. He particularly liked relaxing in his recliner in quieter environments.  He always had a preference for familiar faces. In his younger years, Richard enjoyed vacations with his peers and staff such as his trips to Wisconsin Dells, Black Hills, and Camp Confidence in Brainerd.

Survivors include close friend Rose Baumgartner and all his loving family at PrairieView and Murray County DAC. Richard is preceded in death by his parents Everett and Wilma Johnson.

Memorial Services

Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton, MN on Friday, September 6, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Heidi Winter officiating.  Interment is at Diamond Lake Cemetery in Aitkin, MN.
