Richard Seward Johnson
Richard Johnson was born on February 3, 1942, in Tracy, Minnesota to Seward and Myrtle Haugen Johnson. Richard grew up on farms near Tracy, Clarkfield, and Slayton, MN. He graduated from Slayton High School in 1959. On September 21, 1968, he and Karen Lopau were married at the Peace United Methodist Church in Pipestone, MN. Following their marriage, they made their home on a farm near Avoca, MN later moving to a farm near Currie, MN and in 1989 they moved to Slayton. Richard had various jobs throughout his life. He worked for the Slayton Telephone Co., was a milkman for Oak Grove, worked at the Slayton Elevator and was a feed man for Jim Daniels. He then decided to go into business for himself owning and operating Johnson Garbage and Rubbish and later Johnson Tree Service. Karen passed away on October 6, 2021. Richard passed away on November 5, 2022, at the Murray County Medical Center in Slayton at the age of 80. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton. Richard enjoyed driving around, visiting with people, coffee time, and shaking dice.
Survivors include his four children and their partners, Amy Loosbrock and Nathan Miller of Lake Wilson, MN, Chad Johnson of Slayton, MN, Bobbi Johnson and Monte Swenson of Slayton, MN, and Jeremy Johnson and Ashley Carlson of Slayton, MN, 12 grandchildren, one great-grandchild on the way, and four siblings and their spouses, LeRoy Johnson of Slayton, MN, Dianne Tolentino of Tampa, FL, Susan Johansen of Gillette, WY, and Randy and Julie Johnson of Sartell, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Karen, daughter, Michelle Johnson, one sister Ionne Bonnstetter and her husband, Chris, and one sister-in-law, Vonnie Johnson.
Funeral Services
Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Dave Hollis officiating. The pallbearers are his grandsons. Interment is at Willow Lake Lutheran Cemetery in rural Currie, MN.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022, at Christ Lutheran Church from 4-6 p.m. also one hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday. Totzke Funeral Home of Slayton is entrusted with arrangements. To view online obituary and send condolences visit totzkefuneralhome.com
