Rick Wendorff

Rick Wendorff, the son of Leonard and Evelyn (Moja) Wendorff, was born on February 11, 1949, in Heron Lake, MN. He grew up on a farm near Dundee and attended Fulda Public Schools. He played basketball in high school and in February of 1967 he was named the WCCO player of the week and Argus Leader Ace of the week. He then attended Dakota State College in Madison, SD where he played basketball and earned his degree in History and Phys. Ed. Rick was united in marriage to Lenore Freking on August 24, 1974, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Heron Lake. After their marriage they lived and farmed near Dundee, and he was a substitute teacher for area schools for many years. In 1986 they moved off the farm and into Fulda. Rick passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at his home in Fulda at the age of 74. He was a member of St. Gabriel’s Church where he also volunteered his time. He also belonged to the Fulda Lion’s Club, and Fulda Community Plays. Rick could be heard helping broadcast ballgames on the radio, touring the streets of Fulda in his golf cart or sitting with the guys at the Feed Shack or the Dundee Elevator. He enjoyed attending his daughter’s sporting events and spending time with his grandkids.

Survivors include his wife, Lenore Wendorff; 3 daughters, Laura (Nick) Meyer, Sarah (Mark) Vortherms and Jenna Wendorff; 6 grandchildren, Alex, Sam and Ben Meyer, Max and August Vortherms and Vivienne Wendorff; brother, Ron (Ann) Wendorff and sister, Robin (David) Stoyke.

Funeral Services

St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church Fulda, MN at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 9, 2023, with Fr. Dharma celebrating.  The organist is Dana Hogan. A private family Interment will be at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery Fulda, MN.

In Lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the Fulda Ambulance Association, whose lifting expertise helped him to remain at home.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. The Totzke Funeral Home in Fulda is assisting the family with arrangements.
