Robert Reinhold Kolander

Robert “Bert” Kolander, the son of Reinhold and Meta (Breit) Kolander, was born on February 10, 1926 in Seward Twp., Nobles Co., MN. He grew up on the family farm and attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Fulda and graduated from the Fulda High School in 1943. Robert was united in marriage to JoEllen Hanson on June 19, 1949 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fulda. After their marriage they lived and farmed in Seward Twp., in Nobles Co. In 1978 they moved to a home on Fulda Lake and continued farming until his retirement in 1988. Even after his retirement Bert continued to help on the farm up to a couple of years ago. Bert remained at home after Joey’s death in February of 2005. Bert passed away on Friday, November 27, 2020 at the Pipestone County Hospice Home in Pipestone, MN at the age of 94. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fulda. Bert served as President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Trustee. He also served on the District and National Board of Directors for Land O Lakes, Fulda Area Development Corp., Board of Directors of Fulda Area Credit Union and the Prairie Hill Cemetery Board. Bert enjoyed tending to his lawn, gardening and his grandchildren.

Survivors include his six children, Diane (Rich) Zanter of Sergeant Bluff, IA, Bob (Nancy) Kolander of Wentzville, MO, Jim (Joan) Kolander of Fulda, MN, Gail (Alan) DeGrote of Worthington, MN, Jean (Tim) Runkle of Fulda, MN and Karen (Keith) Dorpinghaus of New Ulm, MN; 18 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, great-grandson, Peyton Van Maanen, 2 sisters, Ruth Schroeder, Ellen Johnson and brother, Don Kolander. 

A private family interment will be held at the Prairie Hill Cemetery Fulda, MN.

The Totzke Funeral Home in Fulda is assisting the family with arrangements.
