Robert “Bob” James Like
Robert Like, the son of Clyde and Gertrude (Timmerman) Like, was born on November 29, 1930 in Slayton, MN. He grew up on a farm northwest of Slayton and attended country school and graduated from Slayton High School in 1948. Bob then worked on various farm jobs until 1952. In 1952 he enlisted with the US Navy and served till his honorable discharge in 1956. Bob returned to Slayton and was united in marriage to Betty Lou Schottle on November 29, 1957 in Windom, MN. After their marriage they made their home in the Slayton area and in 1960 they purchased the family farm in Slayton Twp. They remained on the farm and raised their 3 children for 44 years and in 2004 they moved into Slayton. For 10 years they enjoyed wintering down south. In August of 2013 Bob entered the Golden Living Center in Slayton. Upon the closing of the nursing home in June of 2019 he moved to the Sylvan Court Nursing Home in Canby, MN and passed away there on Friday, August 2, 2019 at the age of 88. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton. Bob enjoyed square dancing, traveling, camping and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Bob was known for his bright blue eyes, smile, laughter and his positive attitude.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Like of Canby, MN; 3 children, Laurie (Richard) Hauschild of Porter, MN, Jeffrey (Stacy) Like of Slayton, MN and Kevin (Kimberly) Like of Leawood, KS; 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty Smith.
Funeral Services
Christ Lutheran Church Slayton, MN at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 with Rev. Dale Degner officiating. The organist is Brenda Whitehead. The pallbearers are Dustin Hauschild, Hunter Like, Logan Like, Sawyer Like, Landon Like, Caiden Like and Carter Wente. Interment at Slayton Memorial Gardens Slayton, MN. Military honors provided by the Slayton VFW Post 6233 and American Legion Post 64. If anyone is interested in reading or learning more about Parkinson’s please visit parkinsons.org.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 PM at the Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
