Robert “Dusty” Dewain Thompson

Robert Thompson was born on February 2, 1949 in Forest City, Iowa to Dorn and Jeanette Johnson Thompson.  He grew up in Forest City and graduated from Forest City High School in 1967.  He then attended Mankato State College graduating in 1972.  On June 21, 1975 he and Cheryl Hansen were married at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Currie, MN.  Following their marriage they made their home in Lake Mills, IA where they owned and operated several area restaurants.  In 2010 they moved to Currie and operated The Log Cabin in Dovray, MN.  In 2017 they owned and operated the Country Host in Slayton.  They retired in 2018.  Due to failing health Dusty moved to Our House Hospice Home in Slayton on November 2, 2020.  He passed away there on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at the age of 71.  He attended Lakeside Church in Worthington, MN.  Dusty enjoyed golfing and taking family vacations.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Thompson of Slayton, MN, three children, Mitchell Thompson and Jolene of Delray Beach, FL, Jay Thompson and Michelle Evjen of Currie, MN, and Nicole Thompson of Slayton, MN, three grandsons, Gunner Thompson, and Wyatt and Tristan Thompson, four siblings, Violet Loeschen and her husband, Lawrence of Titonka, IA, Dennis Thompson of Thompson, IA, Doris Hatland of Lake Mills, IA, and DeEtta Buns and her husband, Tim of Wilmington, NC.  He is preceded in death by his parents, and four siblings, Ruth Dunn, Keith Thompson, Betty Thompson, and Debra Kvammen.

A private funeral service will be held on Monday November 23, 2020 at the Lakeside Church in Worthington, MN with Rev. Wesley Kouba officiating.  The pallbearers are Jeff Loeschen, David Loeschen, Don Hansen, Doug Hansen, Chris Hansen and Peter Jacobsen.  Interment will be at Slayton Memorial Gardens in Slayton, MN. 

Per MN Executive Order, masks will be required and social distancing and occupancy limits are to be followed.
