Steven “Steve” “Chainsaw” Richard Illg

Steve Illg was born on June 20, 1958, in Slayton, Minnesota to Richard and Theresa Ruppert Illg.  He grew up in Currie and graduated from Tracy High School in 1976.  Steve then attended Jackson Vo-Tech for Mechanics.  Following graduation in 1978 Steve went to work at Slayton Auto.  He and Toni Galvin made a home for them self on an acreage west of Currie.  Steve eventually branched out on his own and started Steve’s Alignment and Repair Shop in Slayton.  He later joined Hegstad Equipment in Slayton.  In 2021 due to health reasons Steve retired.  Steve passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at the age of 64.  Steve was a member of the Lake Shetek Sportsman Assn. and served as President he also was a member of the Currie Town and Country.  Steve enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, camping, reading, sudoku, 4-wheeling and his pet dogs.

Survivors include Toni Galvin of Currie, three stepchildren and their spouses, Shelli and John Marthaler of Willmar, MN, Chris Galvin and Kari Torkelson of Currie, MN, and Teresa and Ryan Schulte of Amiret, MN, five grandchildren, his parents, Richard and Theresa Illg of Currie, MN, seven siblings and their spouses, Julie Nagel of Fort Dodge, IA, Joan and Mike Hart of Wellington, CO, Randy Illg of St. James, MN, Lori Sanders of Durango, CO, Cindy and Randy Kruse of Sartell, MN, Rick Illg of St. Cloud, MN, and Marie and Brian Schultz of Monticello, MN.  He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Vincent and Neva Illg, and Joseph and Agnes Ruppet.

A memorial service will be held at IHM Church in Currie, MN on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. with Msgr. R Paul Heiting officiating.  Interment will be private.
