Teresa Catherine Schmitz
Teresa Schmitz was born on September 21, 1958, (A national holiday and a day to be celebrated according to Teresa) in Slayton, Minnesota to Leo and Elizabeth Hoffmann Schmitz. She grew up in Currie, MN and graduated from Tracy High School in 1979. In 1985 Teresa moved to Next Step in Slayton where she remained until 1989 when she moved to SLS House in Slayton. Due to a stroke in 2013 she moved to Prairie View. Teresa attended Day Services at the Murray County DAC where she did various Jobs over the years. Teresa passed away on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at Prairie View in Slayton at the age of 63. She was a member of St. Ann’s Church in Slayton and a former member of IHM Church in Currie. Teresa participated in Special Olympics, Spring Fling and SOS Camp at Lake Shetek. Teresa enjoyed spending time with her family as well as her Prairie View family, dusting, dancing, and casino trips. But her favorite activity was laying claim to items by writing T.S. on them.
If you knew Teresa, you knew that you were her favorite person.
Survivors include her favorite five siblings and their spouses, Donald Schmitz of Slayton, MN, Fr. Michael Schmitz of Yankton, SD, Donna and Vernon Bass of Okabena, MN, Laurie and Bob Mandelkow of Red Wing, MN, Marilyn and Lenny Boerboom of Green Bay, WI, one brother-in-law, Don Dose of Elgin, MN, and several of her favorite nieces and nephews and their families and her Prairie View Family. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Richard Schmitz, sister, Diane Dose and sister-in-law, Arlene Schmitz.
Funeral Services
IHM Church in Currie, MN on Monday, October 11, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. with Msgr. R. Paul Heiting officiating with music by her nieces, Kim Mandelkow, Stacy Glaus and Theresa Homecillo. The pallbearers are Crystal Groen, Amy Wicklund, Bonnie O’Reilly, Melody Kurtti, Jaime Ahlers, and Kelly Rowe. Interment is at Calvary Cemetery in Currie, MN.
Visitation will be on Sunday, October 10, 2021, at the IHM Church in Currie from 4-6 p.m. and also one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday.
