Voyl Beers, a Navy veteran and beloved husband, father, and grandfather, left his earthly body the evening of July 5, 2024 from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
Voyl Eugene was born to Wayne and Velna Beers on December 6, 1949. He grew up on a farm outside of Lake Wilson. As a child, he was very close with his grandma "Granny". Voyl attended Lake Wilson School and graduated in 1967. After 2 years of college, he went to work for Barry Construction.
He met Sandy Johnson in the summer of 1970. They were married September 17, 1971. Their life was based not on how much money was in the bank, but on a deep love straight to the heart. Even when they were apart for many years, their connection never went away. They renewed that connection on November 3, 2020.
Voyl had 3 children: Stacy, Michael, and Shannon. He cultivated these relationships in ways unique to each of them. He was a supportive and reliable father.
Voyl enlisted in the Navy in 1974 and served his country proudly. He was honorably discharged on January 31, 2001. He then worked for the Lake Wilson Postal Service and Helmke Construction until retirement. Voyl was involved with the Lake Wilson American Legion for many years. Surrounded by loved ones, Voyl passed away at the Sanford Hospital on July 5, 2024 at the age of 74 years, 6 months, and 29 days.
Voyl had a knack for creating nicknames for everyone close to him. He loved baseball and enjoyed going to Hadley Buttermaker games. He rarely missed watching his 'Twinkies' and 'Queens'. He enjoyed watching his cows and pigs grow, especially seeing the new babies arrive in the spring. He had a special interest in gardening, a hobby passed down from his father. He kept it meticulously weeded and enjoyed watching all of the vegetables grow.
Left to celebrate Voyl's life are his wife Sandy, daughters Stacy (Howard) and Shannon, grandchildren Megan, Ethan, Tristian (Kelsey), and Landon, siblings Marlin and Kathy (Paul), step-siblings Sharon (Gordy), Jack (Marge), Melvin (Jackie), special friend Codi [Cheeks] 'Junior' Gunnink, numerous nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog Bert.
He was greeted in Heaven by his son Michael, parents and grandparents, in-laws Earl and Sally Johnson, siblings Kevin, Violet, and Gregory, and step-brother Maurice.
