Wallace “Wally” Dean Johlfs
Wallace “Wally” Johlfs, the son of Clarence A. and Frances (Geertsema) Johlfs, was born on July 12, 1935 in Fulda, MN. He grew up in Fulda and attended Fulda Public Schools, graduating in 1954. In that same year, Wally entered the U.S. Navy and served with the Sea Bees traveling abroad to the Marshall Islands until 1956. Wally was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, MaryLynn “Midge” Sturm on October 6, 1956 at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Fulda. Once married, they lived on a ranch north of Fulda called the “Lazy J”. There he raised cattle and horses. He also owned Johlfs Insurance Agency in downtown Fulda, working as an insurance agent. Wally peacefully passed away in his home, with his family by his side, on Thursday, May 7, 2020 at the age of 84. He was a member of the Fulda American Legion Post 318 and VFW Post 9017, while serving the veteran community as Chaplin Johlfs. Wally also served his community as a Boy Scout leader for many years and served on the Fire Department. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, the outdoors, and being with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, MaryLynn “Midge” Johlfs of Fulda, MN; their 3 children, Buck (Connie) Johlfs of Fulda, MN, Brett (Suzy) Johlfs of Napa, CA and Toni Ann (Jim) Berghorst of Sturgis, SD; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Larry Johlfs.
