Walter Milton Gehl

 

Walter Gehl, the son of William and Gertrude (Dierks) Gehl, was born on June 19, 1933 in Graham Lakes Twp., Nobles Co., MN. He grew up on the family farm and attended school in Kinbrae and St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Fulda. After graduating from the Fulda High School in 1951 he attended college at the University of Minnesota at the Farm Campus. He entered the U.S. Army in November of 1953, serving in Japan until he was discharged in October of 1955. Walter was united in marriage to Rose Fitch on March 10, 1956 at the Worthington First Baptist Church. After their marriage they lived on their farm near Kinbrae for 52 years. He remained at home after Rose passed away in March of 2008. Walter married Clarice (Madison) Rust in 2009. Walter passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at his home at the age of 87. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fulda and was involved in many boards and committees over the years. Walter will be remembered for his love of farming and his kind, gentle spirit and respect for others. After his retirement he enjoyed collecting antique tools, gardening, helping with the farming and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

 

Survivors include his wife, Clarice Gehl of Dundee, MN; four children, James (Robin) Gehl of Dundee, MN, Nancy (Tim) Jans of Tampa, FL, Judy Knutson of Luverne, MN and Sheila (Dave) Bos of Dundee, MN; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 5 step-children and their families; brother, Duane (Shari) Gehl of Dundee, MN and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Rose, sister, Audrey Otto and brother, Bill Gehl. 

 

Funeral Services

 

A private family service will be held at the Prairie Hill Cemetery Fulda, MN.

 

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be sent to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fulda or the Fulda Heritage Society. 

 

The Totzke Funeral Home in Fulda is assisting the family with arrangements.
