In Loving Memory of

Blanche Lois Marcotte

Blanche Marcotte, 85, of Slayton received a call on Sunday, April 10, 2016.  It included an offer she couldn’t refuse, for an appointment from which she will not be returning.  This comes with a huge sign-on bonus: A reunion with family and friends she has not seen in a long time!  This new mission takes her to where she’ll be socializing, dancing, gardening and enjoying relaxation to her heart’s content, music, laughter and love are all guaranteed.

Blanche was born on November 14, 1930 in Tyler, Minnesota to Joseph and Lucy Jablonski Meyer.  She was raised in a very loving home and graduated from Tyler High School in 1948.  After attended Mankato College for a few years she met and married Robert “Bob” Marcotte on May 19, 1952.  They lived in Marshall, MN where Blanche worked at Marcotte Jewelry, until moving to Slayton in 1955 where they opened a clothing store, “Bob’s Surplus”.  Blanche’s versatility in her professional life was very impressive!  She worked as secretary to Sheriff Orville Muck for several years.  Also, her warm personality helped her find great success in sales positions at “The Hut” and the Murray County Herald, where she also wrote occasional columns.  Blanche’s greatest joy in life was her family.  She was married to her soul mate Bob for almost 56 years until his death on April 19, 2008.  They had shared a wonderful life together full of love, friends and much laughter.  Blanche adored her three children and five grandchildren, all of which she talked and bragged about on regular basis.  Her family will remember her compassion, warmth, humor, kindness and unconditional love.  In addition to work and family, Blanche kept busy over the years in Catholic Daughters, teaching church school, instructing Boy Scouts as a Den Mother and delivering Meal on Wheels.  Her free time included gardening, driving her Cadillac, enjoying many years of fun at the Lake Sarah cabin, walking, working out at Curves, and enjoying her favorite TV show, “Everbody Loves Raymond.”  Every Friday morning Blanche hosted a coffee party on the front porch with many friends, an event that became known as “Sticky Friday.”  After Bob’s death in 2008, Blanche channeled her energies into home improvement with several projects to upgrade the homestead including new paint inside and out, new windows, and the installation of a new gas furnace.  The upgraded Marcotte home was lovingly renamed the “Blanche Ranch.”

Blanche is survived by her three children:  Joe (Lana) of Russellville, AR; Tom (Camille) of Boise, ID and Mike of Bloomington, MN; five grandchildren, Matthew and Patrick Marcotte, Rachel (Josh) Cook, and Cathy and Francy Marcotte and also one soon-to-be born great-granddaughter, Ellison Cook.  Blanche is also survived by her sister, Maureen Peterson of Brookings, SD and two sisters-in-law, Pauline Marcotte of Marshall, MN and Martha Marcotte of Winona, MN and many nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Bob.

Blanche leaves us rich in memories.  She made a difference in the lives of many and we invite you to join us and celebrate together.
